"SIXty∞NINe by D'espairsRay

:lmao: Yeah, I know, the title...and it's not "teh pr0n!!!!111!!!11one!!111eleven!" I apologize for leading you on...well, sort of. I was trying to think of a D'espairsRay lyric to title this with and since I've been listening to their new album...excessively...this is what I came up with. :sigh: I'd probably be doing you a similar disservice if I translated some other lyric because, well, it's all pretty twisted. XD

Right. Enough on the title. I drew this BEFORE the new CD came out oddly, but I just scanned it now. Usually when I draw w/ pen and ink I do hatching and stuff to shade, but someone in my class is doing their concentration w/ ink breaking everything into solid shadows, and since her work looked really cool, I wanted to give it a try (that and I am SO tired of eating/sleeping/breathing/shitting freakin' watercolors!). Turns out this style isn't really for me. ^^; Over all, I don't like how this turned out much at all--especially since I really like the band and now def. feel the need to draw something good related to them after this -injustice-. That said, I guess it's sort of interesting-looking...
I think Tsukasa (far left) came out the best and maybe Karyu (far right) the worst? Karyu had the largest amount of pure white expanses to begin w/. Zero (2nd from left) looks freaky and all, but he sort of looked like that anyway during that era (he looked damn good in the Murder Day DVD if that's any consolation...).

So, I think I'll shut up now before I talk myself out of submitting this.

Material: Pen and ink on bristol board (this is NOT digital even if it looks sort of like an effect one can easily do to photos in PS)
Time: 5 hours tops
Size: 5"x12"

Actually, it's got a pretty cool effect. It seems to fit the overall style of the band. Of course, since I don't listen to 'em, I couldn't exactly say whether that's true. It just seems to fit really well. I like the lip textures.

Question me not
I am the one that binds this world
You follow without sight
I grow stronger every day
Take the souls I have damned
Burn them in my name
These are the burning times
The years of pain

I'm glad you like the effect--knowing someone does makes me more sure of my decision to post this on DA. ^^;
The lip textures! They were actually far harder than I thought they'd be--lips seem fairly simple and all, but pulling of the whole "less is more approach" and still having them look like they have depth was a bit difficult--that and once the ink's on the page, it stays there. XD But, anyway, glad you like it and all!
